Doves help keep memories alive

dove treeDuring the holiday season we often are flooded with memories of loved ones that are no longer with us. For those out and about in Bancroft on November 27 and 28, please consider sharing your memory by making a donation and placing a Memorial Dove.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Hospice North Hastings Memorial Dove program and with four locations around Bancroft; volunteers will be ready to help you hang your dove to remember the person that you are missing this holiday season.

Beautiful Christmas trees will be on display at the TD Bank, Scotiabank, The Kawartha Credit Union and at Foodland on November 27 and 28 from 9 – 4pm. With each donation you will receive a card that you can use to share your message of remembrance. Then the card and the memorial dove will be placed on the tree.

“We always have some really moving stories told to us during the campaign,” says Hospice Coordinator Heather Brough. “Last year we had a gentleman come by to write a card out for all moms and we had a young girl hang a dove for her cat, Blackie. It’s all very touching and important for people of all ages to be able to tell their stories and have someone understand their loss.”

For the Hospice volunteers this is a chance to get out in the community and build relationships while also acknowledging that many of us miss special people at this emotional time of year.

All the funds raised through the Memorial Dove program support programming offered through Hospice North Hastings.

In addition to end of life care, Hospice North Hastings also operates a medical equipment loan cupboard and the popular R&R Support program.
