New season of TIFF Films launches September 8

tiff2Rolling out a couple of days ahead of the red carpet in Toronto, The North of 7 Film Fest returns to the Village Playhouse on Sept. 8. With the first four independent film picks announced for the 2015/16 season, organizers believe this will be the best Festival yet.

Operated by Hospice North Hastings, in partnership with the Toronto International Film Festival’s Film Circuit program, independent films are shown monthly on the big screen to a growing crowd of film enthusiasts. Each screening encourages patrons to arrive early for snacks and a chance to visit the Playhouse wine bar. All proceeds from the Festival support programming provided by Hospice North Hastings, making the screenings a perfect example of caring through culture.

The North of 7 Film Fest launches on Tuesday September 8 with the delightful film, “A Brilliant Young Mind.” This film tracks math prodigy Nathan as his notable talents land him a spot in the Mathematics Olympiad in Taipei where he and other “mathletes” discover that they might not be as weird as they thought they were.

Each film screens at the Village Playhouse at 4:15 and 7pm and tickets are $10. Each screening features a trivia contest and this season the Bancroft Eatery and Brew Pub have generously sponsored the monthly trivia prize.

While tickets are available at the door and online at www.boxofficebancroft.com, full season passes are also now on sale at the Hospice North Hastings office, online at or they can be purchased at the first screening. The full season passes are $90 and give you access to all ten screenings plus an additional single-film pass is included so that patrons can bring a friend to a screening.

Looking ahead, October’s film selection is “Learning to Drive,” starring Ben Kingsley. The November selection is the French comedy, “Samba” and in December, audience members can catch Dustin Hoffman in “Boychoir.”

tiffOn September 12th TIFF Film Circuit recognizes their most notable partners and Hospice North Hastings is hoping turn their recent nomination for Best Special Event into a win for last spring’s Festival wrap-up that featured Gordon Pinsent.
