Country music fans are asked to bring their cowboy boots and their hearts to the Village Playhouse on March 4 when Canadian tribute artists Amberley Beatty returns with her show, “Country Greats.”
Taking a break from recording her fifth album for Calgary-based Trend Records, Beatty is on the road with a voice that brings back all sorts of great memories for honkey tonk fans. Beatty is more than just a great voice to her fans. To pay a convincing tribute to a star, a tribute artist must know the star’s repertoire, as well as sound, look and dress like the star, often with the help of elaborate costumes, make-up and wigs. Amberley Beatty’s experience as an actress, bandleader and hairstylist gives her everything it takes to be successful in the tribute show business and that’s why she’s returning to Bancroft.
“When she was here in the summer it was a great tribute to Loretta Lynn,” says Playhouse manager Heather Brough. “We were excited to bring this gifted star back to our theatre and with the expanded repertoire of the ‘Country Greats’ show, we know everyone will have a great night out.”
The ability to get into a star’s character is a crucial part of being a convincing tribute artist. More than simply singing like the star; re-creating the speech patterns, accent, body language and performance style is what makes an audience “temporarily suspend disbelief”. In fact, the successful tribute artist will transport an audience back in time, or to any location, from a country barn dance in Kentucky to a beach party in Key West. Audiences everywhere agree that that this is Amberley Beatty’s gift.
Amberley Beatty’s “Country Greats” show will be at the Village Playhouse on Saturday, March 4 at 8pm. Doors and bar open at 7pm and all proceeds support Hospice North Hastings. Tickets are $25 and available at the door, online at bancroftvillageplayhosue.ca, at Hospice House, Posie’s and Harvest Moon.
