An exciting collection of Canadian productions kick-off as Great Big Sea’s Séan McCann brings his folk favorites to the stage of the Bancroft Village Playhouse on Friday, July 7. The first of nine live shows on offer at Bancroft’s historic theatre, fans are already grabbing-up available tickets to spend an intimate evening with “The Shantyman.”

McCann played for a visibly-moved crowd last October and for this stop, our second date, as McCann calls it, there are promises of new stories, songs and as always, a few delightful surprises.

Patrons who enjoyed last year’s show will also appreciate the return of Kingston musician, Chris Murphy, who adds drums, mandolin, jokes and stories to the show.

With an intentional focus on Canadian content, Playhouse Manager and Hospice North Hastings Coordinator, Heather Brough, says that it was an easy choice to have McCann launch the season.

“His stories and his music represent some of the beautiful and painful things that we can identify with through our shared Canadian experience,” Brough says. “This will be a culturally rich evening that will set the tone and the standard for the rest of our season.”

Brough is pleased with the multiple Canadian theatre performances, live music and magic that this summer season will be able to offer to every member of our community and to all of the visitors that we welcome to Bancroft.

For those who are attending the evening with Séan McCann, the doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7:30. Tickets are $35 and include admission to a reception before the show.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming back Séan, Chris and all of our great fans from near and far,” Brough says.

The Bancroft Village Playhouse is operated by Hospice North Hastings as part of the “caring through culture” initiative that helps fund the rural residential Hospice. The season premier show is sponsored by Plan B Communications Consulting and the full season is sponsored by Wilson Timber Mart.

Tickets are $35 and are available at Harvest Moon, Posie’s, Hospice House and online at bancroftvillageplayhouse.ca
